In 2006, first year students in Art Swersey’s Data and Decision Analysis class did the unthinkable. When Professor Swersey stepped through the door to give the last lecture of the semester, he was received by a roomful of smiling MBAs—all of whom were proudly sporting “I Love Art” t-shirts — a clear testament to Professor’s Swersey’s consistent ranking as one of Yale School of Management’s most popular professors.

Professor Swersey’s expertise is in quality management, operations management, and mathematical modeling. He has three decades of experience consulting to firms in statistical process control and quality management including American Express and Xerox Corporation. He has also developed queuing models for the New York City Fire Department. In his recent research Professor Swersey has created a mathematical model for predicting the severity of prostate cancer based on biopsy results and antigen levels.
