ANDERSON ALUMNI HELPED THE STUDENTS WITH FINANCIALS AND KNOWHOW

The group also turned to alumni for essential financial and competitive support. The Anderson alumni in the wine industry were thrilled to hear that their alma mater would be represented in such a prestigious setting and were happy to help. One alum donated bottles from his personal collection of rare vintages, one of which the team actually encountered in the New York competition. Another alum set up a tasting with Laura Maniec, Master Sommeliers and co-founder of Corkbuzz Winestudio, who helped refine their palates.

The 2012 documentary, “Somm,” shed light on the highest echelon of wine connoisseurs: Master Sommeliers. If the competing MBAs somehow make it through the rigorous process to achieve this level of nearly unattainable expertise, they will be endowed with the utmost authority over the entire wine industry.  A Master Sommeliers is an invaluable asset for any company in the business of wine.

The Bordeaux Cup provides exceptional access into the wine and beverage industry for MBAs seeking employment after school. The UCLA wine club members believe their wine knowledge will also catalyze many relationships elsewhere as well. Margot explains, “The human element is so important for business these days and having a different common interest with people really helps. Wine does what golf does for business relationships.”

When they finish business school, these MBAs will be perfectly situated to take advantage of a growing global industry that dates back to 3000 B.C. The old Latin adage says, In Vino Veritas. Well today, it should say, In Vino Opportunitas.
