“An MBA is a big investment and a life changing experience,” says Linh Gilles, director of admissions at the Carlson School of Management. “So students need to do their due diligence to make sure they are looking at all their options. You may find the perfect MBA program in the most unexpected places. So look at schools that you might not have considered. Research into what makes a program unique or special. Talk to alumni and students. Create a list to speak to what you are looking for beyond a rank, a program name, or reputation. Try to find that community that you really want to belong to. That takes time. The best advice is to look at this as if it is a courtship and you really want to dedicate more than just a glancing look at what looks good on paper.”
