Kellogg’s Beth Flye Returns Home to UNC

Beth Flye returns to UNC as head of admissions for a new online MBA program

The Kellogg School of Management lost its director of admissions today (March 29) to the new online MBA program at the he University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. Beth Flye, a Kellogg’s head of admissions and financial aid for the past eight year, will finish out her tour of duty in Evanston, Ill., over the next two weeks.

The deadline for Kellogg’s final third round deadline for MBA applications is April 7th. So far, she said, the new class she began work on at Kellogg is coming together nicely in terms of quality and diversity. “We’ve had a good season so far,” she says.

For Flye, a native of North Carolina, the switch will be a return to a school she knows well. Before her Northwestern stint, she had been associate director of admissions for Kenan-Flagler’s full-time MBA program and is also a UNC graduate.

Flye begins her new job as director of admissions for MBA@UNC, the school’s new online MBA program, on May 2—the day before Kellogg’s deposit deadline for its round two applicants.

“It’s incredibly bittersweet in terms of leaving Kellogg,” Flye said. “I love Kellogg and it will be hard to go. But Kenan-Flagler has been near and dear to my heart ever since I was there many years ago. How often can a person say they’ve been a part of two fantastic schools?”

Flye will be responsible for the recruitment, selection and enrollment of students in MBA@UNC. She will lead the admissions team and oversee selection, enrollment and fellowship decisions.

“I have loved my work at Kellogg, but the opportunity to help build an innovative new program for UNC Kenan-Flagler was totally compelling,” added Flye. “MBA@UNC has enormous potential and I am excited to be a part of this trail-blazing program.”

“Beth Flye brings a dedication and track record of excellence in MBA admissions to her new role at UNC Kenan-Flagler,” said Susan Cates, executive director of MBA@UNC, in a statement. “Her extensive experiences in recruiting top students from around the world combined with her knowledge of UNC Kenan-Flagler are a fabulous combination for this pivotal role.”

At Kellogg, she developed recruitment strategies, plans and programs to attract and enroll students in the school’s four full-time MBA programs, and administered the evaluation process to make final decisions on applications.  She managed and developed a team of 22 admissions and financial aid professionals, and oversaw the strategy, operations and awarding of financial aid.

Flye also served as senior associate director of admissions at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business from 2000-2003, and as part of UNC Kenan-Flagler’s MBA admissions team from 1997-2000.

She graduated from UNC with a BA in psychology. She earned her MBA from Meredith College, where she also worked in a variety of roles, including MBA program coordinator, from 1990-1997. She received a certificate from the Kellogg Management Institute.
