New Dean for American University’s Kogod School of Business

American University’s Kogod School of Business has a new dean, the school announced today (April 20).

Michael Ginzberg, associate provide of Yeshiva University’s Sy Syms School of Business and a professor of management and information systems, will join American University’s Kogod School of Business beginning in June. He succeeds the retiring Richard Durand, who has served the school as the Robert and Arlene Kogod Dean since 2005. Kogod is ranked 77th in the U.S. by Poets&Quants.

“I am confident that Dr. Ginzberg is the right person at the right time to help Kogod reach new heights,” Provost Scott Bass said in a statement. “He’s committed to helping faculty align their curriculum and scholarship interests with a distinctive and compelling position among business schools that plays to Kogod’s strengths. Kogod will serve as a magnet for business students and set the pace for scholarship that has impact in Washington and around the world.”

Ginzberg will oversee Kogod’s 1600 undergraduate and graduate students and 115 faculty and professional staff. According to the university, Ginzberg’s appointment to Washington, D.C.’s first business school “coincides with Kogod’s elevation in national rankings, its demonstrated commitment to investing heavily in faculty research, and the expansion of its degree portfolio of ten programs including a new Master’s of Science in Sustainability Management-–priorities where Ginzberg possesses a proven track-record.”

“Kogod is an outstanding school poised for further growth,” said Ginzberg. “I am impressed by the caliber of the faculty. Their dedication to research and teaching reflects my own personal passion for student and academic advancement.”

Previously, Ginzberg served as the dean of the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, where he led the implementation of an executive education program with PriceWaterhouseCoopers, opened the Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, and secured a $10 million contract with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to create a graduate business program in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As associate dean at Case Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead School of Management, Ginzberg developed an MBA program with what is now known as the Central European University business school in Budapest, Hungary.

Ginzberg earned his Ph.D. in management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Alfred P. Sloan School of Management. He completed his M.B.A. in economic analysis at Iona College and earned his S.B in management from M.I.T.
