How Not to Blow Your Harvard Interview

If there are a 1,000 ways to say goodbye; there are probably 10,000 ways to blow an interview. Chances are, you’ll never figure out why you didn’t get hired.

If you don’t get one job, you can always find another. If you can’t get into Google, there’s always Apple or Amazon. But when it comes to business schools, there’s only one Harvard. Yeah, maybe you can apply again next year. But if your GMATs and GPA fit within the mean – and your essays, resume, and recommendations are solid – there may be one hurdle left: The admissions interview. If you don’t know what went wrong the first time, there’s a good chance that history will repeat itself.

Two years ago, Poets&Quants sat down with Sandy Kreisburg, founder of HBS Guru, to better understand Harvard’s interview process. What are adcoms’ expectations during the interview? What questions will they ask (and what are the reasons behind asking those questions)? What types of gaffes will sabotage your chances? And what types of preparation should you do so your best shines through? Check out an interview with Sandy for the answers.
