On the face of it, Andrew is something of an unconventional candidate for a top MBA. He’s already 31 years old and has a lowish undergraduate GPA of 3.1 and a total GRE score of 320 with a 160 verbal and a 160 quant. He’s also an associate in the Washington, D.C., office of Booz, Allen & Hamilton where he works as the communications lead for a little-known organization called the Transitional Intermediate Management Organization.
But he also has a lot going for him. He has traveled to 27 countries, including Iceland, Jordan, and Costa Rica.
He’s the marketing and communications chair for Booz’s LGBTQ Employee Forum. And when he got his degree in international relations from James Madison University, he did a study abroad stint in Florence, Italy.
In this Fridays With Sandy webinar, HBS Guru Sandy Kreisberg assesses his odds of admission at a group of very good business schools that include Darden, McDonough, Kellogg, and Tuck. But Sandy also turns the tables on Andrew by getting him to reveal all the things he has done to swing the odds in his favor.
