Meet Georgetown McDonough’s MBA Class Of 2021

Jennifer Wolock

Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business

“I am a strong-willed independent woman with a sense of humor and style to boot!”

Hometown: Baltimore, Maryland

Fun Fact About Yourself: I used to have a pet bearded dragon named Tuna.

Undergraduate School and Major: Georgetown University (double Hoya!), Studio Art

Most Recent Employer and Job Title: Under Armour, Senior Merchandiser

Describe your biggest accomplishment in your career so far: When I started at Under Armour, the company only had four full-price brand retail stores. I joined the merchandising team, which was responsible for these stores and helped that store count more than quadruple over my tenor at the company. Contributing to this rapid growth and understanding how to implement scalable processes was one of the best learning experiences of my career and the accomplishment I am most proud of reaching.

What quality best describes the MBA classmates you’ve met so far and why? Everyone is so interesting! My classmates come from all over the world and have such unique and varied experiences. I love talking to and learning more about every person I encounter. Each person is more interesting than the next.

Aside from your classmates, what was the key factor that led you to choose this program for your full-time MBA and why was it so important to you? Georgetown’s location was a major factor that drew me into the school. Being in the heart of D.C. would not only grant me access to an international hub with many post-MBA opportunities but would also make for a unique cultural experience while in school.

What club or activity are you looking most forward to in business school? I have always loved fashion and retail so the Retail and Luxury Association is a club that I look forward to joining and might even consider running for an office position someday.

What was the most challenging question you were asked during the admissions process? I don’t remember any questions during the admissions process being particularly challenging. There is a misconception that your admissions interview is scary and tough, but the admissions team really just wants to learn more about you as a person and why you are pursuing an MBA. If you are honest and answer your questions authentically, that will come across in your interview.

What led you to pursue an MBA at this point in your career? Growth. I reached a point in my career where I felt as though my growth and learning had plateaued. I really wanted to challenge myself and learn new things to equip myself for a long and healthy career path.

What other MBA programs did you apply to? UVA’s Darden School of Business.

How did you determine your fit at various schools? Being from Baltimore originally, I wanted to go to a school in the DMV area because that is where I would like to eventually end up. Georgetown was not only in my desired geographical location, but also offered a strong business program in an international city. Once I had pinned Georgetown as a prospective school, I reached out to a number of current students and recent alumni to hear about their experience first-hand. One thing that made Georgetown stand out from other programs was the way students spoke about the professors and staff. Many students I spoke to mentioned a specific professor, advisor or dean that they connected with during the program and the impact they had on their experience. I think that is really special.

What was your defining moment and how did it shape who you are? I think it was the moment I decided to start studying for the GMAT. I had never pushed myself so hard. Working all day and then coming home and studying all night was a trying time and I learned how much I was capable of doing. It was really rewarding to put in the effort like that and achieve the results you hoped for. I think that has helped me with my future outlook because I know that no matter how busy I am, I can always do a little more, it just takes some reprioritization.

Where do you see yourself in ten years? In ten years, I see myself as the global brand manager at a dynamic company. In my free time I hope to be traveling the world with my (soon-to-be) husband!
