Georgetown Sees 396% Jump In Master’s In Management Apps by: Nathan Allen on September 15, 2020 | 5,911 Views September 15, 2020 Copy Link Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Email Share on LinkedIn Share on WhatsApp Share on Reddit Georgetown McDonough School of Business students. Leslie E. Kossoff/Georgetown Master in Management programs are much more popular in Europe than in the United States. If Georgetown University’s experience is any indication, that could be changing. In its second year, the Master of Science in Management program at Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business saw a 396% increase in applications. After receiving 92 applications for its first cohort entering in the fall of 2019, the one-year program saw applications surge to 364 for entry this fall (see our Directory of Specialized Master’s Programs in Business). There’s a small caveat: The McDonough MiM program was approved midway through the first recruiting cycle, so the school did not have a full year to build a class. The second group was the first to emerge from a true recruitment cycle with the admissions team, a spokesperson tells Poets&Quants. Even so, it’s an impressive jump — and shows the increasing interest in specialized one-year master’s programs at top U.S. business schools. Georgetown McDonough graphic MORE THAN HALF OF THE CLASS — 60% — WILL BE FEMALE Georgetown accepted 165 of its 364 applicants this year, for an acceptance rate of about 45%. And 68 actually enrolled — more than double the 31 that enrolled in last year’s class. While increasing the number of students in the class, McDonough also increased the diversity of the class. Women enrolling in the program leaped from 45% last year to 60%. Under-represented U.S. minorities more than doubled — catapulting from 13% to 27%. And despite the global pandemic, the school was able to enroll 24% international students hailing from 20 different countries outside of the U.S. “In addition to learning from professors and curricular experiences, we know our students also gain so much knowledge from their interactions with one another,” Evelyn Williams, the MiM academic director and teaching professor of management, said in an announcement published on the school’s website. 10-MONTH STEM PROGRAM COSTS $55K McDonough’s Master’s in Management program is geared toward students recently out of undergrad; the school accepts students with zero to three years of work experience. It’s a 10-month STEM-designated program that currently costs $55,000. “By building a diverse cohort across a host of measures, our students learn how to leverage the strengths of a diverse global team from day one in our program,” Williams says. “Performance on global teams is a foundational part of the Georgetown MiM experience — and we are confident that students will gain new perspectives that impact their lives well into the future.” DON’T MISS: GEORGETOWN TO LAUNCH NEW BUSINESS ANALYTICS DEGREE IN 2021 or HOW THE U.S. NEWS’ TOP-50 B-SCHOOLS RANK BY SPECIALIZATION
