How To Get Into IESE Business School

IESE Business School ranked as the No. 1 MBA program in the world this year by the Economist.

Aligning with its prestigious ranking, IESE’s MBA program isn’t easy. IESE MBAs notoriously dissect 600 cases over their two years – and three cases a day to start. Lisa Bevill, a Fortuna Admissions expert coach and former MBA Admissions Director at IE Business School, recently offered insight into who the B-school seeks out and how applicants can deliver the most compelling application.

HIGHLIGHT YOUR LEADERSHIP STORY

IESE looks for applicants who can demonstrate solid leadership experience. Bevill recommends illustrating your career progression and demonstrating your ability to lead yourself and others in your application.

“Consider where you are on your journey, leveraging various experiences and how IESE will allow you to further hone your leadership skills,” Bevill writes. “It is important to be authentic in conveying your leadership abilities. Take time to reflect on the roles where you have been able to influence and impact decisions and teams. Showcase your leadership journey through stories, not just titles.”

HAVE A GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE

With 85% of students being international, IESE values global perspectives. Experts stress the importance of highlighting internationalism in your IESE application.

“Internationalism can take many forms,” says Fortuna’s Emma Bond, former London Business School Senior Manager of MBA Admissions. “Have you worked on international projects or liaised often with international clients? Do you work on multi-cultural teams? Have you invested time in learning other languages? Are there any global secondment opportunities coming up at your company? Any and all of these things can add weight to your application.”

HAVE A SENSE OF PURPOSE

In addition to global perspective, IESE also values applicants who can demonstrate strong self-awareness and sense of purpose. Within your application, you’ll want to highlight your values and explain how they have influenced your key life and career decisions.

“IESE wants holistic, purpose-driven individuals who are able to create sustainable businesses, build communities, and make positive contributions to society,” Bevill writes. “Your personal interests, passion, and ability to articulate a greater sense of purpose will allow you to stand out in the applicant pool. Share who you are and why you choose the work you do. Also consider how you will positively impact the IESE Community during and beyond your MBA.”
