Javier has worked as a lead process engineer for his family’s $18 million (sales) firm in Mexico. But now he would like to land a job in consulting with McKinsey, Bain or BCG (MBB) and want to get an elite MBA to help him make that transition. His target schools? Stanford, MIT Sloan, Northwestern Kellogg, Chicago Booth, Yale, and Michigan Ross.
One hiccup in his quest is a 3.2 GPA in industrial engineering from Universidad Iberoamericana. He is hoping a 740 GMAT score will help offset hiw lower GPA, along with a personal explanation for why his grades were not higher. Javier also brings with him a passion for sailing, soccer and paddle tennis along with monthly volunteer work in Merida Yucatán.
In this episode of Friday’s With Sandy, HBSGuru.com Founder Sandy Kreisberg and Poets&Quants Editor-In-Chief John A. Byrne dissect his application, help him plot strategy, and make a few suggestsions to swing the odds of an admit in his favor.
