Leveraging Kelley’s Career Services by: Erika Martinez, Kelley Direct Online MBA Student on January 11, 2023 | 133 Views January 11, 2023 Copy Link Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Email Share on LinkedIn Share on WhatsApp Share on Reddit In today’s update, I wanted to talk about Kelley’s fantastic graduate career services! These services aren’t only for graduates but for current students as well. These services include career toolkits (which are resources and guides for resumes and interviews), career coaching, career-related courses, and job boards. There’s a ton that adds value to the Kelley Direct MBA program. One of the services I recently used is career coaching! In past blogs, I’ve mentioned I’m interested in exploring becoming a studio head or lead runs part of a game studio. Currently, my role as a producer is similar to a project manager so post-MBA – I might do what’s called a career pivot and I want to be prepped for that! To begin prepping, I recently had the pleasure of chatting with my assigned career coach, Terri Cramer, and thanks to Kelley’s online tools – scheduling this was quick and easy. During our chat, the solid advice Terri gave me was to begin researching jobs with the lens of “What kind of opportunities do the roles represent that are appealing?” as opposed to thinking only about whether I fully fit the job description. Additionally, she encouraged doing informational interviews with people within these fields to ask what they found challenging, and interesting, and what general advice they have. This can help inform whether I’m heading in the right direction and can gather data that will allow me to update my future resume and LinkedIn Profile accordingly. If you find you’re in a similar scenario as me and potentially may career pivot, this could be great advice for you! Overall, my session with Terri was informative and I look forward to our next coaching session. If you are in the program or are considering Kelley Direct MBA, know you’ll have a plethora of resources to ensure you’re prepped for your career during the MBA program and beyond.
