2023-2024 MBA Admissions Events By School by: Jeff Schmitt on July 05, 2023 | 4,011 Views July 5, 2023 Copy Link Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Email Share on LinkedIn Share on WhatsApp Share on Reddit Let’s meet. We want to get to know you. We’re here to help. Ask us anything. July is here – and MBA admissions is heating up. That means adcoms are filling their schedules and sharpening their pitches. While applicants often view the admissions team as gatekeepers, they’re really salespeople. Think of them as the liaisons who can connect you with anyone; the troubleshooters who can clear out any hurdle; and the sirens who’ll patiently ease your fears and doubts. Chances are, your adcom will serve as your champion to get you an acceptance with the best possible deal. As you rise higher, your job increasingly becomes sales. In many ways, that places adcoms near the top of the food chain. How do you make an impression? The basis of sales is relationships: building trust and crafting a win-win. That starts with making a connection. Fact is, you can only digest so many stories, rankings, videos, or boards. Eventually, you need to step out of the shadows. There is no better platform to do that with adcoms than MBA events. SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE The touchpoints could fill a marketing case. There are live events, alternately branded as Mixers, Happy Hours, Cocktail Hours, Coffee Chats, Summer Socials, and Meet-and-Greets. Fairs and Forums are code for decks and discussions. And Office Hours dangle the promise of revelations that’ll get your application in the right pile. There are campus tours, with personal guides or virtual point-and-clicks depending on your preference. If you miss anything, most schools offer recorded events – all cleanly packaged in digestible two-minute segments. Looking to meet with more than one school? Well, you have the Consortium running six MBA Application Preparation Seminars (MAPS) across the country during August and September, capped off by a virtual MAP On November 1st. The Forté Foundation is running six events in July, ranging from a virtual ‘Building a Resume’ webinar to a live alumni networking event in Boston. Of course, there is the MBA Tour, a day-long affair headlined by panels, resume reviews, and networking fairs. In the New York City event held on July 15th for example, you’ll find 49 schools ranging from INSEAD to Harvard Business School to Michigan Ross to Berkeley Haas. If you think that’s breadth, just note that HEC Paris is holding events targeting every livable continent! Then again, Dartmouth Tuck is putting boots-on-the-ground in Kyrgyzstan, where temperatures get down to -20…Celsius. LINKS TO ALL EVENTS IN ONE PLACE Yes, business schools are pulling out all the stops to lure students to the Class of 2026 and 2027. At Texas McCombs, they’re giving 19 tours of Rowling Hall in July (along with 6 virtual chats from July 18-27). Want to know what a real MBA class is like this summer? Just sit in on Washington Foster’s Strategic Marketing Management class, which runs from 6:00-9:15. Chicago Booth is racing through the East Coast gauntlet from July 10-13, with stops including Boston, New York City, DC, and Atlanta. And if you’re thinking about starting a business, Harvard Business School gives prospective candidates 20 minutes with alumni founders. Sometimes, business schools even pool their resources. That is the case with the Top Business Schools Discuss initiative – an online gathering of panelists from 10 of the world’s premier MBA programs, including Stanford, Wharton, Kellogg, Booth, and Columbia. Here, they examine an issue in relation to their program. Their next virtual event, held August 21st, will address diversity and inclusion. Industry spotlights and application workshops – events targeted underrepresented populations, veterans, and dual degree aspirants – you’ll find them all on the school websites, updated throughout the year.
