This week Booth announced that applications to join the programs’ second cohorts are open. Chicago Booth School of Business will look significantly different this fall thanks to the addition of two new programs — and the presence of the students who inaugurate them. The Master of Finance and Master of Management programs are the first new programs at Chicago Booth since before World War II. Both were announced in 2023 and both get underway this fall. But even as the M7 school welcomes its new cohorts of specialized master’s students, it has opened applications and set deadlines for the next groups of students. 4 DEADLINES FOR MiM; 1 DEADLINE FOR MiF Chicago Booth’s Donna Swinford: Ideal candidates for Master in Finance and Master in Management “are those ready to tackle challenges head-on, learn from world-class faculty, and make the most of Booth’s resources to propel their careers forward” “We are thrilled to welcome the inaugural cohort of Chicago Booth’s Master in Management and Master in Finance programs,” Donna Swinford, associate dean for student recruitment and admissions, MBA and master programs, tells P&Q. “This marks a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to educating current and future leaders. Our incoming group of diverse, talented individuals is poised to make a significant impact on our community and in the business world. They bring a wide range of experiences and perspectives and we are confident this pioneering group will set a high standard of excellence and collaboration, paving the way for future cohorts. Applications are now available for the second cohort of each of Booth’s new programs. There is one deadline for Master in Finance — January 9, 2025 — and four deadlines for Booth’s Master in Management: Round One: October 10, 2024 Round Two: January 9, 2025 Round Three: March 6, 2025 Round Four: May 1, 2025 For both degrees, “Similar to our inaugural cohort, we are seeking recent college graduates who are passionate, academically strong, and eager to add to Booth’s culture while launching their careers in the always-evolving field of business,” Swinford says. “The ideal candidates are those ready to tackle challenges head-on, learn from world-class faculty, and make the most of Booth’s resources to propel their careers forward.” MiM IS A 10-MONTH PROGRAM; MiF IS 15 MONTHS Booth’s Master in Management, announced in July 2023, is a 10-month program designed to introduce “foundational business skills to a new generation of Booth students, enhancing their impact in that first job and beyond,” Madhav Rajan, Booth dean and the George Pratt Shultz professor of accounting, said last year. The 15-month Master in Finance was developed “to not only expand students’ quantitative skills, which are critical for excelling in the world of finance, but also to enhance their interpersonal and critical-thinking skills,” Starr Marcello, deputy dean for MBA Programs at Booth, said in December at the announcement of the program. “By combining a deep understanding of finance with the ability to communicate effectively and solve problems, our Master in Finance graduates will be prepared to succeed in their early jobs and far beyond.” As part of the application process for both programs, candidates are required to submit two letters of recommendation, transcripts, and standardized test scores, which can be either Graduate Management Admission Test or Graduate Record Exam scores. They must also have graduated from or be on track to graduate with an undergraduate degree. And they must write responses to two essay prompts: Essay One: How will the Booth Master in Finance/Management help you achieve your immediate and long-term career goals? (Maximum 300 words.) Essay Two: Graduate finance/management education is as much about personal growth as it is about professional development.
