Aside from your classmates, what was the key part of Cornell’s MBA programming that led you to choose this business school and why was it so important to you? A key part of Cornell’s MBA program that led me to choose this business school is the emphasis on emerging markets and technologies. The program offers specialized courses and experiential learning opportunities that focus on understanding and navigating the complexities of emerging economies. This aspect is crucial for me because it aligns with my career goals of working in dynamic, high-growth regions and leveraging cutting-edge technologies to drive innovation. The opportunity to gain deep insights into these markets and technologies was instrumental in my decision to join Johnson.

What excites you the most about living in Ithaca and the Finger Lakes region? After living in Atlanta for the past 13 years, I am thrilled about exploring a new landscape with my partner, who is also a classmate. I look forward to going on hikes, visiting the many wineries, enjoying the stunning lake views, and experiencing snow. The change of scenery and the opportunity to immerse yourself in the natural beauty and outdoor activities of Ithaca and the Finger Lakes region are incredibly exciting.

What course, club or activity excites you the most at Cornell? I am particularly excited about participating in case competitions, especially those organized by the Emerging Markets Institute. The EMI holds a prestigious case competition that challenges students to develop innovative solutions for real-world issues faced by businesses in emerging markets. This competition not only allows me to apply my analytical and strategic skills, but also provides an opportunity to work closely with diverse teams, gain insights into global markets and connect with industry leaders. Participating in such competitions will be instrumental in honing my problem-solving abilities and preparing me for a successful career post-MBA.

Looking at your recruitment, what was the moment when you realized Johnson was the right program for you? Why? During my visit to the campus, I met Consortium students and the faculty and admissions staff who support them. I realized that Cornell Johnson was very intentional about creating a community that made students like me feel truly connected to each other and the Ithaca community. The genuine support and camaraderie among the students and staff highlighted Johnson’s commitment to fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment, making it clear that this was the right program for me.

Describe your biggest accomplishment in your career so far: My biggest accomplishment has been leveraging the skills I acquired through various leadership programs to support and mentor colleagues. I have successfully guided multiple individuals in making transitions into more meaningful and impactful roles. This involved providing career advice, developing personalized growth plans and offering continuous support and encouragement. Seeing these colleagues achieve their career goals and thrive in their new positions has been incredibly rewarding and highlights the importance of mentorship and leadership in professional development.

Looking ahead two years, what would make your MBA experience successful?  My MBA experience will be successful if I actively participate in student leadership and support initiatives that help future classes. This will allow me to contribute to the Johnson community, foster collaboration and drive positive change. Helping to develop and support programs that enhance the MBA experience for future students will ensure that I leave a lasting impact on the institution.

What advice would you give to help potential applicants gain admission into Cornell’s MBA program? My advice to potential applicants is to connect with admissions staff and current students early in the process. Building these relationships can provide valuable insights into the program and help tailor your application to align with Cornell’s values and expectations. For me, having the support of Eddie Asbie, the executive director of admissions and scholarship, through the application process was instrumental. His guidance and encouragement helped me present my best self in my application.
