Average GMAT Scores At The Top 50 B-Schools

Once again, Stanford GSB has the highest average GMAT score among all elite U.S. business schools. This year’s mark of 734 is a few points lower than Stanford’s record of 737, set in 2016 and matched in 2017.

When Poets&Quants analyzed GMAT scores for the Top 50 business schools in early 2018, there were 20 schools at or above an average score of 700. In 2019, that number slipped by one, to 19, after Cornell University’s Johnson Graduate School of Management inched backward from 700 to 699. This year, the number of 700 schools has slipped again, to 18, while six more schools linger within striking distance at 690 or above (same number, and for the most part same six schools, as last year). The one 700 school in 2018 that dropped below the threshold in 2019? UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School, which saw its GMAT average decline to 697 to 703. It was UNC’s first decline in at least five years and erased the gains the school had made in that span.
