Low GMAT Top Reason for Being Dinged

When Homer Simpson makes a blunder, he punctuates it by slapping his head and yelping, “D’oh.” When MBA applicants get a rejection, many make this primal squeal: “Ding.”

It’s that time again, when the postal service becomes relevant. Now, round one applicants are anxiously checking their mailboxes, awaiting their acceptance letter. They’re bright, ambitious, and accomplished, no doubt. If they applied to a top 10 business school, only one-in-five are likely to get in.

So why are so many applicants being dinged? In 2013, Kaplan Test Prep conducted its annual poll of b-school admissions directors on this very topic. As you’d expect, a GMAT score tops the list.
