China has risen to become a global superpower, yet it has a system vastly different from that of the West. In late 2017, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced that China has entered a “New Era.” What is President Xi’s vision for China’s New Era? How is it perceived by the West? How is it reflected in the China-US trade conflict and beyond? In particular, what does China’s New Era mean for the Philippines, and how do Philippine companies manage business relations with Chinese companies with strong government backgrounds?
