Consultant Bio

In an admissions application world where brevity is the mandate, I deliver. Do you need to turn a page-long missive into a clear and focused statement? In the words of a client, “Farrell can say anything in 10 words or less.” I turn your heap of clay into a statue.

But more about that heap of clay. My coaching brings forth your most compelling, authentic content. I identify the unique contributions you would bring to the program, and create a succinct, memorable value proposition.

This value proposition becomes the guiding focal point for all facets of your application. And this is why 99% of my clients get into a top MBA program.

Upon earning my MBA in Marketing from a Big Ten school, I spent eight years working for Fortune 500 companies in marketing management roles, writing award-winning advertising campaigns for Gannett and direct mail that broke sales records for Dow Jones.

As the Wells Fargo corporate newsletter editor, I interviewed upper management and told their stories. Once familiar with my talents, many invited me to write their bios and serve as their ghostwriter.
Exiting corporate, I started a consultancy developing value propositions for new startup owners, helping them increase sales revenue and obtain VC funding.

More interested in marketing people than products, I decided to leverage my previously part-time experience in admissions consulting by opening my own MBA admissions consultancy, applying the same principles. I help both full-time and EMBA leaders get into top 10 MBA programs.

Live jazz is my jam, along with personal development and perfecting my French. You might find me swimming, meditating, or hanging out in downtown Sacramento. Sipping on sangria, asking strangers if I can pet their dog.

Company Information

MBA Prep Coach is a full-service boutique admission consultancy providing application strategy, school selection, career coaching, letter of recommendation support, editing services, and interview preparation. I have helped dozens of statistically-challenged applicants break into top American and European MBA programs. 99% of my clients are admitted to top programs, creating a quantum shift in their lifetime earning potential.

In terms of credentials, I’m an interview coach, marketing professor, and a resume specialist. Yet what really counts is that I’m a good listener, a great editor, and very devoted to the success of my clients. It also helps that I know what’s out there – having worked for five large admissions consulting firms, I’ve read and edited several hundred essays. I know what has been “done to death” by applicants, and where the opportunities lie.

Partnering with my clients, we shape a distinct, memorable brand that shines through each part of the application. It is authentic, engaging and retains their unique “voice.” As a result, candidates with marginal “stats” break into top business schools.

  • Chicago Booth MBA

“After finishing college, I worked as a trader for a few years, but realized that that my understanding of the business world was actually quite limited. I spent considerable time looking for a position in another industry, but realized I was extremely pigeon-holed to finance. My Ivy league undergraduate degree often got my foot in the door, but I didn’t have any hard skills I could bring to the table. I decided to submit Round 3 business school applications. I needed to differentiate myself, being overrepresented as a white male with a finance background. I started looking for GMAT Verbal tutors and found Farrell on Craigslist. Farrell raised my Verbal score from 48 to 51 within only 8 hours; I would have spent more time ...

  • Why MBA?
This time last year, I had just exited a software startup that I co-founded. After considering my options, I decided to go to business school and started to study for the GMAT. When I had finally taken the test three months later, it dawned on me that my first Round 1 application deadline was only four weeks away! That’s when I called Farrell. I knew I needed help with my application essays. Even though I am skilled at writing technical documents for work, I had no clue what would make for a good personal essay. I was also in the dark about what essay content would capture the attention of the admission committee. And, although I didn’t realize it when I first called Farrell, I ...
