Consultant Bio

I enjoy helping clients from all corners of the globe tell their stories. Here’s mine.

After doing my undergrad in Economics, I went into sales for Wells Fargo. Curious about the science behind my “relationship banking” sales goals at Wells Fargo, marketing seemed to spark my interest, but I instead pursued law at Tulane in New Orleans. I was miserable – in the words of my friend at Tulane, I was “more of a people person than a bookworm.”

This motivated me to drop law school and pursue an MBA, with a concentration in marketing. I also had a personal long-time ambition to study in France and become fluent in French.

I applied over the summer to late-deadline MBA programs starting that year. After visiting several schools, I settled on the University of Iowa, where I would be their first “pioneer” to study abroad. They offered me a Global Scholar award to do so.

Upon my return, I worked as a verbal GMAT Prep instructor for Kaplan in Iowa City, during my last semester of business school. Post-MBA, I spent 8 years in marketing management working for industry leaders including Gannett, Dow Jones, and Wells Fargo. In the evenings, I served as a verbal GMAT tutor and MBA essay editor for a very well-known admissions consulting firm.

From 2006 to 2008, I interviewed upper management and told their stories as the Walls Fargo corporate newsletter editor. Once familiar with my talents, many invited me to write their bios and serve as their ghostwriter. This sparked an even greater interest in a full-time career in the area of communications and admissions consulting.

In 2008, I became a certified coach and helped new self-employed professionals develop their value proposition and monetize their business. While ramping up my practice, I returned to my alma mater, California State University, to teach Advertising and Strategic Management. I also taught Economics and MBA-level Marketing for other universities.

Drawn to marketing people rather than products, in 2014 I decided to go from part-time to full-time with MBA prep consulting. I worked for several well-known admissions consultancies, gaining a tremendous wealth of experience and approaches. At the same time, I formally embarked upon my own practice, MBAPrepCoach.com.

What sets me apart is that I am a certified coach who is highly trained in the art of asking questions and extracting the right “content” for your application. I am also a marketing expert and a professional writer/editor.

Live jazz is my jam, along with personal development and perfecting my French. You might find me swimming, meditating, or sipping on sangria, asking strangers if I can pet their dog.

I enjoy working with applicants to all program formats: full-time, part-time and EMBA.

Curious about working with me? Please review my testimonials, rates and services. Then, fill out my prospective client form and send me your CV via http://MBAPrepCoach.com. I will reach out to schedule a Skype chat.

My mission is to help you create your best applications, get into your dream b-school, and most of all, pursue a meaningful career that excites you.

To Your Continued Success!

Company Information

MATCHING WHAT YOU HAVE TO WHAT ADCOM WANTS WANT – I get to know you well, probably better than you know yourself. We do research and assessments to accelerate the process of helping me get to know you. This allows me to learn about the qualities you have demonstrated that the adcom cares about.

IDENTIFYING THE BRILLIANCE FACTOR – Initially, your stories are like a heap of information, and actions you took. I help you identify what I call the brilliance factor in all stories you have to tell, the breakthrough thinking you applied to solve the problem, to get the result. With tight word limits, it’s important we go down the right road with these stories, so we develop the best angle to showcase in each of your application elements, i.e., recommendations, essays, CV, Linked In summary and interview anecdotes.

SPOTTING HOW YOU HAVE ADDED VALUE – I am able to see various ways to articulate benefits and results of your work that my clients often miss. I can see ways your actions benefitted the company that you may not. They are seeing this through a much smaller aperture. I’m experienced and my background is very multifaceted.

LEARN ABOUT YOUR VALUES – to communicate who you are to adcom. When we reveal who you are to adcom on the level of values they become more attracted to you – the authentic you. Articulating your values helps adcom know “what makes you tick,” so they get to know you better and feel closer to you. Values are also a roadmap for making decisions about your goals.

LEARN HOW TO TELL YOUR STORIES – By outlining your anecdotes together, you learn an effective framework for telling stories that you take into interviews for the rest of your life.

DISTINGUSH YOU FROM OTHERS WITH YOUR PROFILE – I help you focus on the attributes that separate you from other competitors in your profile group.

FROM ACRONYMS TO ADCOM-FRIENDLY LANGUAGE – I help you recognize where you are using industry jargon that adcom won’t readily understand, and translate that into universal language, as much as possible. This helps remove BARRIERS to adcom getting to know and appreciate you.

ESTABLISH YOUR CRITICAL PATH – My key to success: research yourself, research your goals and research the schools. I help you establish the right activities that get you closer to your goal of an admit, activities which are very specific to you personally.

CREATING A CLEAR IDENTITY FOR ADCOM AND BEYOND – By getting to know you, I identify your brand promise. What you deliver in every setting. From this we come up with an “angle” unique to you, and weave that through all the deliverables and interviews. Adcom can summarize who you are, because we have done the work for them.

…AND BEYOND ADCOM – Working with me empowers you with words you use to describe yourself, and talk about your brand, for the rest of your life. To be successful, you must know your unique value proposition (USP) and be able to communicate it cleanly and concisely. This is what sparks interest in you when it comes to interviews, speaking with investors, and anything else that comes your way.

1-1 SUPPORT OUTLINING ESSAYS – I outline all your essay stories with you, so the draft you write is on track, which saves time for you.

POLISHED FINAL PRODUCT – I edit all your work, so it accentuates the key communication objective of each piece. I cut away what distracts from the main message. Greater focus and
SIMPLICITY makes you more memorable.

GETTING GREAT VALUE OUT OF YOUR B-SCHOOL EXPERIENCE – Having your goals ironed out allows you to spend time in b-school learning, instead of recruiting for a bunch of different industries. Why go into debt JUST to get a job – when there are so many more interesting ways to spend your time in business school.

HIT THE GROUND RUNNING – I actually put my clients through the same exercises they do in zero week in business school, in terms of personal branding, informational interviewing, and your outreach/communication strategy in finding an internship or post-MBA job.

Reasons for my success

Skilled at conveying your value

Eliciting concrete post-MBA goals

16 years of post-MBA experience informing your apps

My academic experience will help enrich your essays

Guiding your prep for video essays and interviews

Having worked for five large admissions consulting firms, I’ve read and edited several hundred essays. I know what has been “done to death” by applicants, and where the opportunities lie.

Contact me at the email below to set up a time to chat and see if we would make a good team. I want to help you create your best applications – get into your dream b-school – and pursue a career that excites you.

Menu of Services and Associated Costs

I take the time to get to know my clients inside and out. This allows us to create truly customized applications that are consequently very successful.

Also, you will be working with me directly – a full-time experienced proven professional – on all elements of the application.

It’s important that we work together on every aspect of your application. NOT just your essays. Statistically, each element is weighted equally. Essays are weighed the same as your letters of recommendation, CV, and application boxes.

For this reason, the first application generally requires 40 hours. My hourly rate is $100/hour. Subsequent applications are sequentially less, 25-30 hours, then 10-15 hours for 3rd and 4th applications. I strive to maximize your chances by repurposing your content in other applications.

Don’t roll the dice on your future when the payoff is potentially massive: starting salary, scholarships, and being supremely prepared for MBA internship interviews.
