Consultant Bio

I am an industry veteran with over ten years of experience personally helping hundreds of applicants around the world get into top MBA programs. 96% of clients are successful. I received my MBA at Wharton and BS at MIT Sloan. I have also worked in management consulting, travel and hospitality, financial services, consumer products, and healthcare for Deloitte Consulting, JP Morgan and InterContinental Hotels Group. As a result, beyond mastering the admissions process, I have an in-depth understanding of pre-MBA careers and exactly how to position these experiences to open the doors at the top MBA programs. I am also on the Board of Directors for AIGAC (Association of International Graduate Admissions Consultants).

Admissions consulting is my passion and I am a frequent keynote presenter on application strategies at consulting firms, corporations and MBA events globally. I am an avid world traveler, both for work and fun, and I look forward to meeting you soon.

Company Information

I founded Personal MBA Coach in 2008 to offer a very boutique and personalized level of application support. The approach is unique and because there is personal 1:1 work with all clients, we offer a level of support unmatched at larger firms. This means you work directly with an expert throughout the entire process. Plus, once you get to the interview stage, we have a team of former M7 interviewers who know exactly how to prepare you to seal the deal. We work with a select number of applicants each year and place them into the best MBA, EMBA and part-time programs.

Our clients don’t only get admitted, but many of them receive substantial scholarships. Last year clients received over $4.5M in merit scholarships.

Menu of Services and Associated Costs

While most applicants work through a comprehensive admissions package, I offer a full suite of personalized and customized services including:

Application Strategy and School Selection
Early MBA Planning
Resume Editing
Personal Story Development
Essay Topic Creation and Unlimited Essay Editing
Letter of Recommendation Support

  • 12/10 Experience (and results)
Scott did a fantastic job preparing me for interviews and creating my resume. I came in with a below average (at best) resume and he did a fantastic job helping me stand out to give me that extra edge. Scott is attentive, quick to respond, professional and provides an experience second to none. Not only did he help me cater my resume towards business school applications but also worked diligently on a resume catered toward the internship I had been pursuing - and was ultimately rewarded. Having used other services (both private and larger "institutional size" programs), I can honestly say he is by far the best.

  • Scott Will Get It DONE!
When doing my initial search for an admissions consultant, I was first drawn to the big-name consulting companies. Yet, after doing more research I realized that I did not merely want to be another faceless customer at one of these big firms. I knew that I needed the personalized support that Scott @ Personal MBA Coach provides in order to get through the application process in one piece. The whole application process, from b-school research to essay writing, is intensive, time-consuming, and stressful. I highly recommend Scott as the person ripe for the job to get you through it—with success. Truth be told, Scott gets into the minutiae of the entire application, including the 50 character explanations for my ECs in your undergraduate studies. From ...

  • Simply the best. Scott got me into Stanford GSB!
I don't write online reviews. Especially not 6 years after the purchase. But Scott deserves an exception. I knew MBA applications were a long shot for me to begin with. Coming from a no-name international school (not known to the U.S. application dropdown menu), I was hoping that I "had it in me", but at the same time know that I needed to craft the perfect application, most importantly the essays, to stand out. My first call was into Sandy Kreisberg. My second into Scott. I went with Scott, and never regretted it. The results spoke for themselves: 4 applications (all top schools), 3 admissions, including my dream choice: Stanford GSB. Scott knows inside out how to tailor your best and hightest-chance-of-success application package. He continually challenged me ...

  • Scott got me into my dream school
Scott is no only a great resource to bounce ideas off of, but also an excellent essay editor. Much of my reason for a consultant was to develop a strategy for my application to school. I am a traditional background and struggled with what would make me stand out. Scott was great at helping me with this. However, Scott's strongest suit may be essay editing. I believe he is second to none at this. He would take my ideas/writing and put them all together in a coherent story that spoke directly to what I could add to a program. Evan after all that hard work, I was waitlisted at two of my top schools. Scott was integral ...

  • Incredible Experience with Scott
I worked with Scott Edinburgh at Personal MBA Coach and I could not have been happier! Scott offers an incredible personal experience that is very hard to find. The fact that you are working with an individual and not a company cannot be emphasized enough. Don't be fooled by the big company name / support services that some larger firms have. At the end of the day you work with one person most of the time so why not work directly with an expert for the same price rather than an employee of a larger firm? I hired a very well known name and was not satisfied as the support did not feel personalized enough since I was just a number in the process and ...

  • Strong results
After meeting with and chatting with over 7 MBA admissions consultants, ranging from the biggest brand names to the smallest independents, I decided to go with Scott, Personal MBA Coach, as my advisor for 8 schools. Not because he was the most optimistic or the most pessimistic, but because he seemed honest and like an easy guy to work with, with an equal to or better track record of success versus his competitors. We agreed on some “safe” schools, some “matches,” and some “reaches,” and decided that a strategy of applying to 8 match-to-reaches with no safety schools would be an optimal strategy for my goals and risk tolerance. I applied to all of the M7+Tuck, and to my surprise received offers of admission to ...

  • Scott is the best!
A good friend of mine who was helping me through the process asked me if I wanted to chat with Scott. Since the 15 min call was free, I called Scott and shared with him my story. To my surprise, he did not sugarcoat his points of reservation, and was very forward about what aspects was not working. His honesty is refreshing. At no point in the conversation did I feel that he was courting me for his services. He was already serving me. I only had budget for one or two schools. He recommended that we work together on the school that has the highest admit rate, because I was aiming to get into any top program in this application season. I chose to ...

  • Highly recommend Scott Edinburgh!!
I highly recommend Scott. I did my homework and spoke to quite a few MBA consultants before settling with Scott. He was by far the most down to earth and easy to speak to. He is very knowledgeable about the admission's process, across US Ivy league and European top business schools. His turn around time was amazing, whether it was a weekend or a weekday, he always replied almost the same day. He was very honest in his feedback. He helped schedule two mock interviews, which was very helpful. At the end, I managed to get into LBS as well as get a scholarship without which I could not have proceeded further. I would urge anyone shopping for a consultant to give Scott a try! ...

  • What you see is what you get
I decided to apply for MBA late in June, and to make the GMAT that I took 5 years ago count, I had to go for round 1, which left me with only 2-3 months to complete the whole thing. I talked to several friends who had MBA experience, and figured hiring a consultant would be very helpful in my case. I did not know where to start, so I googled. After visiting a few forums, I collected a few names, including both big names with a large team of consultants, as well as smaller shops like Personal MBA Coach. After completing several free consulting sessions, it was almost no brainer to go with Scott. The big firms are super good at marketing, followed up warmly ...

  • The best there is.
I vetted no less than 10 consultants. Scott is the most level-headed, logical, patient, knowledgable, and easy to work with. We worked on a four school package and I also added on several extra hours. He helped me craft my work experience, passions and extracurriculars in a very positive way and prepared me well for interviews. Actually, I overprepared. As a result of our months-long work I am attending my dream school with an $80,000 scholarship. Scott makes the process fun and rewarding. You may be considering someone else or thinking you can do this on your own. Why risk the results of one of the most important decisions of your life. Go with Scott!
