Candidate:

Mr. Air Force Seeking Feedback

About Me:

I’m a Cyber Officer in the Air Force and have enjoyed my time so far, but am looking to the future, and do not think I want to spend 20+ years in the Air Force. I probably will not be applying for another 2 or 3 years, but would love some feedback on what would strengthen my application.

My GRE is a 329, but the Q161 is on the lower side. Do I need to retake it? Any other suggestions would be welcome. Thanks for the help!

Details:

Undergrad School: United States Air Force Academy

Undergrad Major: Management

GPA: 3.2

GRE: 329

Age: 27,  Ethnicity: Black or African American

Extracurriculars: Woodworking, and 3D design and production.

Work History:

Title: Cyber Officer

Industry: Government / Military

Company: Air Force

Length of Employment: 3 yrs, 4 mos

Big Life Wins:

1) Just got back from a deployment where I got to work all over the Middle East solving problems, and seeing the real-world impacts of my work.

2) In my free time I am learning 3D design and have leveraged that to do some 3D printing/CNC work as a side project

Post MBA Goal:

I have friends who work in Consulting and it seems to be a challenging yet rewarding career path. I have a lot of experience meeting with military “customers” to find IT solutions to their problems so I think it would be a good fit.

I also am interested in potentially working overseas: UK, Germany, France ect.

Schools:

Target School: Harvard

Status: Open

Considering: Columbia, Wharton, Chicago Booth

In the class that just graduated, there were 19 Army vets, 14 Navy vets, 4 Marine vets, and only 2 Air Force vets (and on a side note notably only one female in the entire group). So getting into Harvard from the Air Force poses its own problem. Coupled with a low gpa and not being a pilot, Harvard is a pretty big stretch. I would suggest Darden and Fuqua, and working on an extracurricular which benefits others over the next couple of years.
