If I get this right, your plan is to apply to a top-notch part-time program. Chicago, Northwestern and NYU Stern are all among the very best part-time MBAs in the world. Given your background and experience, I see no reason why you wouldn’t be admitted to all three programs. I am assuming, too, that you have the option to live in the New York metro area to make it easy for you to attend NYU part-time. Good luck to you.

Hi, Kate from mbaMission here. For Part-Time/Weekend programs at those three schools (Booth, Kellogg, Stern), your GPA and GRE stats are definitely in range. Part-Time programs also tend to skew a bit older so your 6 years will work in your favor. I’m also rating your odds quite high because of your less represented Military/Government background. For instance in Booth’s program, only 4% of students have a Government background. Your international experience is a plus too. And I love what you did with the company you started — schools will love that leadership and commitment to giving back. Good luck!

Your profile is one that will appeal to part-time MBA programs in general. Your military experience will be helpful—I encourage you to reach out to veteran’s groups at all your target programs to help you gain more information. Obviously Booth is one of the more difficult MBA programs –even for part-time—but I think you have a good chance if you clearly articulate your impact in both the Navy and your extracurricular work. I could see you being successful at Kellogg or Stern as well. You might also consider UNC Kenan-Flagler’s online MBA program. I can’t recall the exact percent but the class has a lot of students from military backgrounds and it is approved by the government for military continuing education. Mr Asian Veteran, I think you have a chance to get into a top school given what I can see of your profile. I know there are various efforts to reach out to veterans and to give them access to MBAs, so make sure you are in the know on how each of your prospective schools are supporting students who are veterans. Also, I hope that you will be able to articulate your impact not just in your current work role but also the impact of your military experiences on your perspectives, the way you think process, the way you lead, follow etc. Having more of that story will be valuable to any admissions committee.
