Mr. Backyard Homesteader

About Me:

I am half-Cuban, engaged, and homestead for fun. At work, I previously analyzed and designed improvements to our call center operations. On my new team, I will be creating and guiding a new product to rollout. I’ve grown and realized I desire an MBA in order to pivot into entrepreneurship. However, I lack needed skills due to my undergrad major.

GPA: 3.90

GRE: 327

Age: 23,  Ethnicity: Hispanic or Latino

Work History:

Title: Business Analyst

Industry: Banking & Finance

Company: Fortune 500

Length of Employment: 1 yr, 2 mos

Big Life Wins:

Identified, analyzed, and managed project for call center agent tools, saving an estimated $17M in Year 1. Designed and spearheaded strategic work for the rollout of premium servicing phone queue, impacting 150+ agents, and 100,000 customer touchpoints per year. Overhauled and automated risk reporting systems, resulting in 40% increase in team bandwidth.

Post MBA Goal:

My ultimate goal is to start my own company or start-up that is profit-making, while fostering community involvement. Ultimately, I am motivated to have a positive impact and want my work to fill a need for everyday Americans. I also hope to stay in the US South.

I can’t imagine that you won’t knock it out of the park during your interview. You pretty much check off all the boxes for an admit from Duke, from your very strong stats to your accomplishments at work. Unless you freeze during that interview, you should be welcomed to Fuqua with open arms. If I have one concern, it may be that I don’t see things in your profile that reinforce your goal of fostering community environment, a key attribute of the Team Fuqua culture at Duke. I would be surprised if the evidence isn’t there but you need to show it.
