Turned down promotion with my current employer to an audit manager role in order to gain corp finance exp as a Senior Associate. Similarly, have turned down accounting roles with worlds largest search engine and social media platform that would double my pay. I see my patience as a big win – with the goal of getting as much pre-MBA experience as i can.
Post MBA Goal:
Leverage my existing experience and that gained through an MBA to transition into management consulting. I appreciate your thoughtful list of schools as well, along with your efforts to improve yourself and gain pre-MBA experience that aligns with your goals. Apart from a possible test retake, I encourage you to make sure you are getting specific about how your transferable skills translate to your new goals, and perhaps do some networking in your target industry to understand which firms/areas are right for you. I’m not clear on your long-term NGO plans – are you saying you would move from consulting to work at say a Red Cross or something?
