I’m passionate about finance and spent a large part of my consulting gig developing potential strategic decisions through analytic. I’m interested in exploring US schools (Wharton/CBS) and transition from boutique firms. Primarily looking at coming back but open to other locations depending on opportunity. Unsure about CBS regular vs J term.

Hi Mr. Boutique to Brand, Julie-Anne Heafey here from mbaMission. I’m not 100% clear on your timing from your profile, but if you are planning to apply this year for a 2021 January or August entry, I think you will face an uphill climb. Although you’ve got a solid GMAT and strong GPA from a reputable school in India, there’s a ton of competition in your category and you seem to be just starting out. At top US MBA programs, candidates’ years of experience at matriculation is closer to 5 years than 2, and while it’s more about impact than time served, I have a very foggy sense of your goals and how you might apply your passion for finance or transition …
At top US MBA programs, candidates’ years of experience at matriculation is closer to 5 years than 2, and while it’s more about impact than time served, I have a very foggy sense of your goals and how you might apply your passion for finance or transition from boutique (what, consulting?) to something else in the future. At Columbia, that’s a bit of an issue. Seems to me like you need to gain more experience and refine your goals and return in a few years to make your case. In the meantime don’t forget to do other things to strengthen your future application like pursuing that passion for finance, cultivating strong recommenders, and contributing to your community. Best of luck!
