Iām an investment banker with a focus on industrial and manufacturing companies. I worked at a large Canadian bank as an analyst and an associate for 3.5 years between Toronto & Calgary. Recently, I moved to a U.S. MM boutique in Toronto with my MD who specifically invited me to join the new firm. I enjoy covering industrial and tech companies.

Hi Mr. Canadian Banker, Kristen from MBA Prep School here. As a former MIT Sloan adcom, I had to respond to your profile! There is a lot to like about your candidacy. UToronto has a strong reputation and your academic performance and finance major should leave no concerns about your ability to do quant work. Your GMAT falls 10 points below the current class average; you are still within the range but you will have to show the adcom why they should admit you over someone who might pad the stats a bit more. This is where your personal story, professional successes, and community involvement come into play. It sounds like you may be a first gen college grad and I love the drive you …
It sounds like you may be a first gen college grad and I love the drive you displayed through working whatever jobs needed to pay for undergrad (and doing as well as you did)! You have a really solid progression in IB, have specific accomplishments you can highlight of your impact, and were in demand enough to get recruited away by your MD. Plus your involvement in volunteer work sounds very consistent and shows a passion for helping others, a solid quality for MBA programs that prioritize social impact. I like the connection you are able to make between your client experience and career goals, though you are looking to pivot both in industry and function which can be a challenge. You will want to carefully choose what stories to tell to emphasize the transferrable skills you already possess in addition to the ones you want to gain to successfully make this move. I do really like your odds and would be happy to offer you a complimentary consultation if you would be interested in talking through your application strategy more!
