Mr. Captain Mishra

About Me:

I have been working on ships as an officer since 2012 and became Captain at the age of 30 which is remarkably young for the rank. I have a very good academic record and have been involved in football and table tennis at a national level. I would like to work in sustainability consulting, especially in the transport and logistics sectors.

Undergrad School: IGNOU

Undergrad Major: Nautical Science

GPA: 4.0

GMAT: 760

Age: 30,  Ethnicity: Asian or Indian

Extracurriculars: Table tennis national level player, school football team captain and still playing, worked with an NGO during winter months to provide clothing and essentials to people.

Work History:

Title: Captain

Industry: Transportation

Company: Global

Length of Employment: 9 yrs, 1 mos

Big Life Wins:

Getting promoted to Captain at the age of 30 (Less than 0.5% manage to do so) was a major accomplishment, but even greater was executing my first voyage in command. Transiting pirate-infested waters, the Suez canal, Bosphorus strait, to get to the Black sea and then back to Vietnam to discharge 20 million $ worth of cargo without any loss or delays.

Post MBA Goal:

The transportation and logistics sector is poised for massive changes towards decarbonization and sustainability between now and 2050. I wish to transition into a consulting role in either the maritime or sustainability sector and contribute towards shaping the future of transport.

Target School: Harvard

Status: Open

Hi Mr. Captain Mishra, Melisa here from Stratus Admissions. It sounds like you would have some very interesting stories and perspective on the recent Suez Canal excitement. And congrats on your recent promotion to Captain – sounds like that is a great achievement. As you mention, looks like you have a strong academic record and also a very strong GMAT score – so there will be no question of your ability to handle the academic side of things. Another key thing that HBS will want to see is leadership – and based on your promotion it sounds like you will be able to demonstrate your ability to lead. HBS will be looking for your leadership throughout university and currently, so make sure you highlight how …

The Male-Indian-Engineer (MIE) demographic is an extremely competitive demographic and Harvard typically has about 20 slots per class. Unless he has some life experience/stories more than what he's mentioned, not sure if he has any chance. In addition, he has pretty strong headwinds - Age, University in addition to the MIE demographic.
