Mr. Construction Manager

Hi Mr. Construction Manager! This is Kate Richardson, Senior Admissions Consultant. I recently worked with a project manager from the construction management field and was impressed by the mix of activities the role entailed, especially in regards to negotiating with and managing all different groups of contractors, workers, owners, etc. It sounds like you had a great stretch experience with your supervisor leaving and you stepped up to the challenge! I think in your case too, the mix of residential and industrial work will be appealing and show versatility. In terms of your stats, your GMAT is in range for Kelley and even a bit above their average. Your GPA is on the lower side though, but I often see that for engineers, so hopefully that won’t be a major challenge for you. It helps that you were balancing college athletics on top of challenging coursework. Is any of the volunteer work current? If not, that could be a gap. Otherwise I think you’ve got a great list of schools, with Ross being the toughest but still within reach if you demonstrate your interest and execute a stellar application. I too would add UNC to your list for its strength in real estate unless you are looking to branch out geographically. Good luck!

Coupled with your extracurriculars of being a student athlete and being involved in service trips, I like your profile. So many people in MBA programs work in service industries—but you have built things and that brings some great diversity to the classroom. Your 680 GMAT is not out of the park, but it is solid and I think given your school list you have the best shots at MSU Broad, IU Kelley and Mendoza. I see Ross as the biggest stretch because their GMAT avg is 720 and also their gpa avg is higher. I also think with your work experience in North Carolina and your real estate interests that you really should look at UNC Kenan-Flagler. They have an outstanding program in real estate and I could see you being a candidate who gets some attention there. I have had clients who had similar stats who were successful at the schools on your list including Mendoza. I encourage you to give the essay and application process your full attention and effort as if you present your story in the best way I think good things can happen for you!
