I am considering an MBA to transition to a focus on corporate strategy. In the long-term, that would consist of membership on a board of directors rather than just advising it from a legal perspective. In the short-term, I hope to hone my leadership skills and to have a stronger understanding of financial analysis & operations.

By the base numbers, of course, you would appear to be in good shape. Your GPA of 3.95 is excellent and nicely above Harvard’s class average. Your LSAT of 172 is in the 98.7% percentile so less than 2% of all the test takers have managed to get that high a score. Your time as a corporate lawyer in energy deals is great prep for a highly selective MBA program as are your goals to move into corporate strategy. I also think your target schools reflect a good range of possibilties and I have no doubt you will be admitted to several of those MBA programs, setting the stage for a difficult choice. At HBS, you have a good shot but a lot will depend on how well known your law firm is and how highly selective it is in hiring lawyers. The fact that you went to a top seven law school, for example, is a definite plus. Put together a serviceable application and at the very least you should earn yourself an interview by admissions at Harvard.
