I have been an active-duty military member for the past 10 years. Within that timeframe, I’ve led multiple $250K+ IT system installs, projects, and personnel teams ranging from 5-17 from Europe, Asia, and North America. Currently, I am looking for a change-of-pace to the reserves while attending an MBA that both suits my goals and personality.

One of my biggest motivating factors is seeing my team and others succeed unto reaching new heights they didn’t think were possible! An example of this accomplishment is leading one of my subordinates to not only get promoted early but also receive a decoration above position, typically designated for higher-ranks. When the team wins, we all do.
I have a technical foundation but am highly interested in the business side of the house. I would like to either get into consulting or continue to work on technical applications relating to business. Businesses change the world daily and I want to develop creative solutions that turn the proverbial “box” a way we’ve never seen before.

Hi, Mr. Cyber Enlisted, Julie-Anne Heafey here with mbaMission. I like a lot of things in your profile, and while you’re on the older side for 2 year MBA programs, I often see some exceptions for military, so I think you still have a shot. I think you just need to explain why now is the right time and how you’re thinking about your path to business. Your goals are a bit fuzzy, which isn’t unusual for military applicants, but do some digging and think about these different paths a little more…we have some career guides on the mbaMission web site that might be helpful for you, along with career posts on our blog. I’d also think about whether, instead of a …

I’d also think about whether, instead of a FT MBA, getting a job and doing a PT or EMBA program makes more sense, but it depends on what you decide for your goals, because summer internships can be helpful for a pivot. If you opt for something more in the business of tech space, however, I think that transition would be more doable (not sure if you’re in Texas to also do McCombs for that or elsewhere). Best of luck!
Hi Mr. Cyber Enlisted, it’s Lisa Cummings of Stratus Admissions. First off thank you for your service and sacrifice. You have a lot going for you. Your stats are on the high end for McCombs making it very likely that the adcomm will give your application a lot of attention. I am a big fan of Toastmasters, it is a great organization that really gives members life skills. I’m also interested in your volunteer work at the animal shelter and booster club member. What was your commitment to those groups? Your enthusiasm for motivation others is noble, schools will also need to hear about some of your big professional wins. What was your commitment to those groups? Your enthusiasm for motivation others is noble, schools will also need to hear about some of your big professional wins. The biggest issue I see with your candidacy is your 10 years of work experience. You will be outside the middle 80% range for every standard 2 year program. Schools may think it will be difficult to place you after the degree so you will need to be extra sure that you weave a solid story to convince the reader why this is the right place, and in in fact the best, time to go back school. Think about whether an executive or part time program might be better fit for you. Best of luck!
