Your life experience in India, the U.S., and South Africa gives you the global outlook and I would expect an appreciation for cultural differences that INSEAD loves to see in its applicants. The 4.0 from IIT is superb. So is your 730 GMAT score and your work history with a boutique consultant, a tech company and an NGO provides a wide variety of experience that you should share with your classmates. So is your 730 GMAT score and your work history with a boutique consultant, a tech company and an NGO provides a wide variety of experience that you should share with your classmates. And your post-MBA goal to reenter management consulting is ideal for INSEAD which sends more people into consulting than pretty much any business school in the world. The only thing that could hold you up is something we don’t know: How highly selective is your consulting and tech employers and how well known is your NGO? That typically matters, though in your case, with your accomplishments and educational credentials, it would probably not tilt this against you. The bigger issue, perhaps, is the age old issue that you are another male Indian engineer in an applicant pool overflowing with people like yourself. So the question is will you stand out against similar candidates and will INSEAD like you more than the other applicants like you? My bet is that your shift into tech and the NGO from consulting would help a lot. So I think your chances for INSEAD are pretty good overall.

IIT candidates tend to do well in b-school admissions so I’m excited that you’ve reached out for feedback. Add in all your on-the-ground international work experience and things get even more interesting. I like your chances at INSEAD. If you’re open to European schools, add LBS as well. Booth and Kellogg are maybes for me because of your GMAT. 730 is a solid score and your class rank of course will get anyone’s attention. BUT…your typical IIT candidate will normally present with 750+. If you’re willing to take the exam again, I’d recommend you do so. Alternatively, add options like Tuck and Yale. (Keep Booth and Kellogg on your list because I want to …

I honestly love your work experience combo of consulting + biz intelligence + NGO. Super attractive. I think you will have options in this process if you put together a nice diverse portfolio of schools.
