Hi Mr. Fighter Pilot, this is Kristen from MBA Prep School. As a former MIT Sloan admissions officer, I wanted to share some feedback on your applicant profile. In my experience, military applicants (both US and international) are viewed very favorably in the MBA admissions process. They naturally display the types of leadership traits necessary to be successful in business, with the added challenges of stressful, life-threatening situations. It’s clear you are someone who has been able to problem-solve and motivate others. While your GMAT is right around the average for Sloan, your GPA is somewhat concerning to me. It is admissible, but you will have lots of competition from applicants with higher scores and your GPA may create concerns about your abilities in the classroom. The burden will be on you to prove what makes you deserve the seat over them, through your professional successes. I’d also like to learn more about your career goals. Consulting is a pretty natural post-MBA path for a vet who is looking to get broad exposure to lots of different industries, but I like that you are thinking ahead to what would come next. Are there certain issues you see in the aerospace industry you’d like to solve? You have a unique perspective seeing it from the fighter pilot angle as opposed to the corporate side, so it would be interesting to get your POV and how you could enact change. Your odds at Sloan really depend on the scope and scale of your professional impacts. I’d be happy to offer you a complimentary consultation to talk through the details more and help you put together the strongest application possible. I also think it would be wise to not put all your eggs in one basket and consider adding a few other schools to your list!
MIT doesn’t take 3.0 white guys unless you founded a unicorn.
