Mr. Indian VC

About Me:

I’m working as a Pre-MBA analyst at an early-stage venture capital firm in India, covering the Quantum, Biotech and Energy industries (4 investments). Prior to this, I spent 6 months starting a company at an incubator in Singapore. Prior to which I was working at a fintech startup creating equity trading strategies using AI and ML in Atlanta.

Undergrad School: Georgia Institute of Technology

Undergrad Major: Computer Science

GPA: 3.61

GRE: 333

Age: 26,  Ethnicity: Asian or Indian

Extracurriculars: Community building events for Startups in India, Investments committee at Georgia Tech, Vice president of finance of the largest cultural organization on campus

Work History:

Title: Quantitative Analyst

Industry: Banking & Finance

Company: Start-Up

Length of Employment: 1 yr, 6 mos

Title: Pre-MBA Analyst

Industry: Venture Capital

Company: Boutique Firm

Length of Employment: 1 yr, 6 mos

Big Life Wins:

I have recently established startup communities for quantum and biotechnology in India. This was a joint initiative between the government and my firm. I was responsible for heading this project. This project involved setting up incubation centres and educating investors regarding these traditionally underinvested industries in India.

Post MBA Goal:

Currently, I work at a seed-stage venture capital firm. Post the MBA I want to work for a venture firm that focuses on later-stage investments. There is a lot more portfolio support required at later stage funds, I want to use the MBA to build my operational skills and further enhance my business acumen.

Target School: Wharton

You know, Mr. Indian VC, there’s a lot to like here, from your strong GPA at Georgia Tech to your good GRE score, to your initiative and impact, to your experience in different geographies. I also really appreciate your thoughtful goals (where are you planning to work? btw). Wharton can be challenging to break into, but I think your chances are good with demonstrated fit with Wharton (do your homework) and a strong essay 2 (I think your essay 1 is clear from this). Good luck! Julie-Anne Heafey, mbaMission

Hi Mr. Indian VC, Melisa here from Stratus Admissions. Congrats on landing a highly selected and coveted pre-MBA VC position. This puts you at an advantage in that you can already contribute to the classroom from a VC perspective. Your stats are fantastic from a highly respected engineering school. Your insight into developing an incubation network in a developing market will be interesting to development and financial conversations. Your short term goal of transitioning to a later-stage VC makes sense – where would you like this to take you longer term? Do you want to start your own fund? Continue to grow to later stage investments? Talking about your aspirations will help put this in perspective. Your global experience across start-ups and investing will be …
