I worked at two bulge bracket investment banks in capital markets / public finance roles before transitioning into an investor relations role at a large venture capital firm. I was laid off from that firm when the firm ceased fundraising and downsized significantly and have since been working in an interim capacity at another fund manager.

Hi Mr. Investor Relations, I think your work experience in a niche area of finance helps you stand out. This is Debbie Choy from mbaMission and GSB alum. I also like that you’re a community leader through your involvement with financial literacy and the LGBTQ affinity group. That said, it’s not immediately obvious to me how your past experience positions you for a future leadership role in tech. Did your past roles involve the tech industry? AdCom would be interested in better understanding why you are passionate about the tech industry. Why MBA? What specific skills and knowledge are you seeking at GSB that will help you make a difference in the tech world? Finally, tech is a big industry. Which area of tech are you most interested in? If you can weave all these points into a compelling story, that will help your chances at the GSB. If you wish to discuss your profile in further detail, feel free to schedule a consultation with us. Mr. Investor Relations – Thanks for posting your profile. Susan here from Stratus.
Congrats on the stellar stats! While you are above average for Stanford, the numbers alone are not sufficient to secure a seat in the program. Stanford wants students who will change lives, change organizations and change the world. There isn’t anything in what you shared (yes, it is fairly limited!) that offers me insight into WHY you want to be chief-of-staff at a tech company. What is the impact that you want to make? How will the skills that you have developed to date allow you to find success in your target role?
Take time to figure out your why. With this, you could find success. At least you don’t need to overcome …
