I’m a 24-year-old trader working at a top European investment bank based out of India and have been with the bank for roughly 3 years now. During this time I have had a chance to work for 7 months in London (International exposure) and was offered a full-time position there as well (which I had to decline at that point in time due to personal reasons).

Hi Mr Rates Trader, Congrats on your fast track promotion! This is Debbie Choy from mbaMission. I think there are a lot of strengths in your profile – robust academic track record (undergrad and GMAT), strong work performance (also trading is a niche within finance), as well as community engagement working on projects with the Government of India. As you put your apps together, be sure to articulate why MBA and why you have an interest in pursuing investing long-term. Also, differentiating yourself from the other finance and Indian candidates would be key to your application success. Don’t be afraid to use personal stories to help Wharton better understand what drives you and what has influenced you as a professional and leader. If you wish to …

Hi Mr Rates Trader, Melisa here from Stratus Admissions. Sounds like youāve had some really interesting experiences working in London and helping the Indian Government. Starting with your stats – you look solid here – above the GMAT averages on all of your schools and a strong GPA (first class with distinction, correct?). I can logically see how a path to IB can make sense for you – and with your financed background, you will be a great candidate. What Iād love to hear more about is why investing for you. What is personally driving your interests and what opportunities do you see that youād like to impact /improve? The hard part about being a finance guy staying in finance is that itās a common …
The hard part about being a finance guy staying in finance is that itās a common story – so you want to make sure your authentic story comes through. Assuming you are looking at this next application cycle, you will be on the lower band of the 3-8 years of experience for full time programs. You will need to show that your leadership experience commensurate with higher years of experience – your early promotion will help this. Make sure you are highlighting where you have led projects, initiatives, budgets. Your projects with the Indian Government may fit in well here. Also, have you continued your involvement with the government or other community based organizations post-university? Schools will want to see that you are involved in the greater community, which gives a good indication that you will be involved at school and as an alumni. You have identified 3 strong schools that have a path to banking, and because there is not guarantee in admissions, especially in the M7, I would love for you to add a school where you will be extremely competitive to have a solid option that can get you an IB role. You might consider adding NYU or Darden. If youād like to talk more about your profile, sign up for a free consultation!
