I am a civil engineering and architecture dual degree graduate with a broad perspective of the real estate development cycle. To best influence the real estate industry, I intend to pivot from design and construction management to a real estate developer role. I am passionate about real estate development, and have spent 5 years in the workforce driving real estate development deals and execution in Los Angeles.

1) Married with an 18-month son, another son on the way. Love family life and build my entire life around them. 2) Completed rigorous dual degree in CE and Arch. To build on my dual degree in engineering and architecture and my experience in design and construction to pivot into a real estate developer role. Am focusing on programs particularly strong in both real estate and entrepreneurship. My roles have exposed me to the influx of technology in the development field. Would like to do at least one internship in the tech market so I can best educate myself to not only invest in new technologies, but implement them in practice as a developer.

Hi Mr. Real Estate Developer, Melisa here from Stratus Admissions. Based on what you have submitted in your profile, you seem like a great fit for Haas – tying together your Real Estate and Entrepreneurship as well as Technology. While you GPA is a little lower than the Haas average, a dual degree in engineering and architecture will help overcome that. If there is something specific that impacted your GPA – or if you had an upward trajectory throughout your time at USC – this is worth mentioning in an optional essay. Your family will definitely be welcome on campus and you should reach out to the Haas Partners Club (and other schools partner clubs) to connect your spouse. Sounds like youāve had some solid …
Sounds like youāve had some solid achievements in real estate to date – both professionally and personally. Your opportunity will be to articulate why you need an MBA to make this change and to tell your authentic story to make admissions fall in love with you. Think about the Defining Principles as you tell your story – and find ways throughout the application to highlight each one. Other clients I have worked with in real estate/construction mgmt have identified technology as an opportunity as well – youāll need to identify the skills you want to learn from a tech start up and show clearly how they will help you be successful post-MBA. And then identify what type of a role youād like post-MBA. You want to show the trajectory of how an internship will help you obtain that post-MBA goal – is to work with a larger developer or go out on your own. Be specific here. Assuming you can show a good fit for Haas culture – I think youāve better than average chances. Best of luck!
