I grew up in a small town in a Greek island, so one of my biggest wins is working my way to LBS and building a career in London as a first generation student. I also won McKinsey’s 1st Gen Achievement Award in 2020, awarded to high achieving young professionals or students that are the first in their family to attend university.
My experience as a first generation student made me realise that some systems were never designed to be inclusive. I want to further my career in fintech with a social focus (e.g. apps democratising saving) to empower people like my younger self.

As a fellow first gen student and graduate, let me just say I hear you. You and your family should feel immensely proud with what you have accomplished thus far in your early years. I think MIT Sloan would be proud as well and lucky to have you in a classroom. Your LBS degree, your McKinsey award, your solid test score, and your impressive grades in a difficult major–computer science–tick all the key boxes. In any case, you have a compelling story and a well-executed application should put you in serious contention for a classroom seat at MIT Sloan. By the way, you probably will apply to more than two schools. If not, you should also consider tossing apps to Harvard, Wharton, Chicago Booth, and UCLA. I’m certainly rooting for you.
