Hi Mr. Structural Engineer, Melisa here from Stratus Admissions. Sounds like you’ve been a part of some really large and interesting construction challenges. And I believe that while construction has started to look for opportunities to improve technology and processes, it is just the tip of the iceberg. So let’s hit our biggest obstacle first – your ‘quant’ stats. It sounds like you are planning to take the GMAT again, and I think this is important for you. With your lower than class GPA averages for both undergrad and grad school, a strong GMAT score could help here. While I can see how MBB would be a natural progression for you, I’d love to hear more about your career aspirations and how further consulting will help you achieve this aspiration. Based on the limited info here, it looks like you have been in the same role at your firm for the last 5 years? If this is the case, make sure you highlight your increases in responsibility and maybe even an optional essay explaining the normal career trajectory for your company. As you are researching schools, think about what impact you can make on campus to show that you want to continue a similar level of involvement to what it looks like you had in undergrad. Kellogg places a strong value on community – so you will want to show how you have had and will have an impact on your community. If you find yourself not hitting your GMAT target, you may want to find other schools that can provide a pathway to MBB such as Cornell Johnson or UNC Kenan-Flagler. Best of luck on your applications. My current assessment is based on your current GMAT score, but would go up with an increase.
Indian engineers with a 3.2/680 don’t go to Kellogg. What’s even scarier is your low graduate GPA, since graduate classes are easier.
