Mr. Stylist & Actor

About Me:

I have quite the non-corporate background and would love some insight on what schools I should/should not be targeting. I am currently a Fashion Stylist and Actor, and was previously in luxury goods sales for 2 years.

Undergrad School: Carleton

Undergrad Major: Philosophy

GPA: 9.5

GMAT: 760

Age: 27,  Ethnicity: Asian or Indian

Extracurriculars: In my spare time I create original artwork for my art instagram, I play chess online daily and I do yoga/hiit training.

Work History:

Title: Fashion Stylist

Industry: Retail

Company: Other

Length of Employment: 3 yrs

Big Life Wins:

About 3 years ago, I was promoted to the position of Fashion Stylist with a major Canadian fashion-forward department store where I currently lead a team that styles outfits and creates visual displays in a large 100,000 square foot brick and mortar store. Prior to this, I was in sales in suiting and luxury goods for almost 2 years. And for the past 6 years, I have been a part-time actor and have starred in educational videos and act in live simulations in educational settings. I have also done background work on various films. I have a BA with Honours in Philosophy with a CGPA of 9.5/12 from a Canadian University. In undergrad, I received an A+ in a Financial Accounting course. In 2020, I took a Microeconomics course at my local college and received an A+ and I am currently taking Statistics at my Alma Mater.

Post MBA Goal:

In the short-term I would like to gain employment as a tech PMM and I would then like to take the skills/experience and bring it back to the fashion retail industry in a corporate management/strategy role.

Target School: Kellogg

Status: Open

Considering: Tuck, Ross, NYU Stern, Yale

If you’re looking to go into corporate strategy long-term, perhaps consider going into management consulting post-MBA? Consulting firms recruit at most business schools, and it’s a great way to get corporate strategy training that positions you for a strategy job in the fashion retail industry. As for schools you …
