Hi Mr. Surgeon Innovator, Melisa here from Stratus Admission. I love that medical school and a medical start up are not enough – so let’s add b school! You have clearly checked the stats perspective with an extremely strong GPA in Neuroscience and and GRE score. Your goals make sense and I logically see where a business degree would help driving strategy and investments at a large academic institution. Another plus is that we do not see a lot of doctors applying to business school. I have only talked with a handful over my years. All this said, I am a little uncertain about how admission would view your lower years of work experience. Most of the doctors I have talked to have been further in their career. It’s great that you’ve worked part time at your family’s business, however the average work experience at Booth is 5 years. While the range is generally 3-8 years, few are admitted with less than a year. Now, because you are already a Chicago student, I’d encourage you to reach out to admissions and talk with them. Because yours is such a unique profile, and Booth is really the only school (unless you want to try for your alma mater up North) that would make sense to apply, I think reaching out will give you the best indication. Without insight from admissions, my overall suggestion would be for you to get through medical school and wait. Maybe apply after residencey or get a part time or EMB further in your career to help you get to your long term goal. Wish you the best of luck.
