Looking to transition into M&A IB after the MBA– a lifelong ambition of mine, but wanted to contribute to society in a slightly different way after uni. Would perhaps be open to MBB consulting if GS/MS/JPM IBD roles were unattainable.

Hi Mr. Teacher to IB, Cambridge scholarship, top of class, CFA – all impressive things! This is Debbie Choy from mbaMission and GSB alum. I think there are a lot of strengths in your profile – unique work experience, outstanding academics, solid extracurriculars through your work in an underserved area. As you put your apps together, be sure to explain why you’d like to pivot into banking. What drives your personal passion for finance? Why now? Be sure to weave in these personal stories in your essays to help your app stand out. For example, what perspectives might you bring to the Wharton classroom from your teaching experiences? If you can articulate this compellingly in your essays, that would be the key to your application success. …

Mr. Teacher to IB – Thanks for posting your profile. Susan here from Stratus.
I really like your odds at Wharton! Your stats are outstanding (though graduating first class honors from a UK school won’t weigh into the GPA average). The fact that you are pursuing the CFA demonstrates your commitment to finance and will position you well for your proposed transition.
The one area that I’m seeing as a bit on the softer side is leadership or community involvement. Use that time that you have before you submit applications to build this out – ideally with activities that align with your goals. Perhaps you can drive a consulting project for the school/organization through which you teach socially disadvantaged?
Wishing you all the best on your MBA …
