I like your passion for social impact, especially in sustainable rural development! This is Debbie Choy from mbaMission and GSB alum. I think you have a lot of strengths in your profile – strong professional experiences, solid GRE and extracurriculars. I think your softer undergrad GPA should be offset by your GRE score. That said, AdCom would be curious to learn more about the reasons for your passion in sustainable rural development. Did any personal experiences influence this motivation? If so, be sure to weave in some of these personal stories so that AdCom can better get to know you. They would also want to see some examples of times when you made an impact, ideally related to sustainable rural development. Thus, consider beefing up your community activities more. What community organizations can you get involved in to show your engagement, especially in causes that tackle sustainable rural development? The fact that you have such passion for sustainable rural development will help you in your GSB application—be sure to say what matters most to you and why. Stanford wants to know what you value, what your goals are and then they also want to know how you have had an impact on your communities and can see how your experiences have shaped your perspectives. Share your impact in the clubs you have led and in your work. You have the main essays as well as the shorter questions where you can talk about your impact if you cannot fit it naturally into your essay on what matters most. Since Stanford is the most competitive MBA program, you may want to expand your list if you want to increase your odds of being in an MBA program next year. Yale SOM, Ross, Fuqua, Kellogg, Booth and Haas all come to mind as programs that may also help you transition to social entrepreneurship. To be successful at GSB—make sure you explain those four points I noted at the start—1) What do you value? 2) Where do you want to go? 3) What impact have you had on your communities? 4) How have your experiences shaped your perspectives?
