Candidate:

Ms. Social Enterprise/Healthcare

About Me:

I’m all about healthcare and communities. I’m a consultant mainly advising on social determinant programs for hospitals – think mobile health clinics, food banks. This community safety net is what allowed me to thrive/go to college. I want to work in the private sector because I enjoy the pace, double bottom line, and value sustainable funding.

I have one strong recommender, and one medium one (no other teammates/bosses have known me for more than 6 months due to various company reshuffles). I’m also considering waiting another year in order to get another promotion and a better recommender. Finally, I could only attend business school if I got a scholarship (ideally half). Thoughts?

  • mbaMission Odds Assessment: 10%

    Hi Ms. Social Enterprise/Healthcare,
I love your passion for healthcare! This is Debbie Choy from mbaMission. I spent many years in healthcare myself and am always thrilled to see candidates excited about making a change in the industry. I like that you have made a real impact advising hospitals, and you’re an active community leader (through your church and alumni network). Also, the hospital podcast shows a lot of initiative. That said, to answer your question – I think you would be well-served to apply in another year if you’re expecting a promotion and potentially a better recommender. That will also allow you to amass more work experience, which is valued by HBS. Also, the additional time would allow you to consider retaking the GRE to …

  • Stratus Admissions Counseling Odds Assessment: 15%

Hi, it’s Jennifer Jackson from Stratus Admissions. You have a strong GRE and good work experience, and I love your emphasis on improving all communities you’re a part of. I think you would be well-served to wait another year to apply if you can get a better recommender and a promotion. You’re on the lower end of the average work experience at HBS and the other schools you mention. I like the LT goal but I think you should have an explicit ST goal to help you get there. As for schools, if you want a scholarship I recommend looking at a different set of schools. It’s typically not the Top 10s that offer people merit scholarships (it’s certainly possibly but not common). Think schools …
