Hello Ms. Start-Up Entrepreneur, this is Michael from mbaMission. You have a great story – impressive that you are about to launch a CPG start-up. Good luck! The MBA application process is holistic, and they will look at your stats, work experience, and extracurricular involvement. In terms of your stats, it is clear you have the quantitative ability to succeed in the classroom, assuming you hit your intended GRE score (which is around the average of your target schools), as well as because of your solid GPA in a quantitative degree. Your work experience can really help you stand out. I like that you spent time at a CPG company, and used that experience to help found a start-up. I think your career goals are realistic too, …

I think your career goals are realistic too, although because becoming an entrepreneur right after school can be risky, you could also discuss you joining a large company or a start-up as a short term goal, instead of a long-term goal, to help you gain the necessary experience to succeed in your start-up. This will also be deemed less risky by the schools. (Recent entrepreneurial clients have had success outlining this career path in their essays.) And as for your extracurriculars, being a mentor to minority start-ups shows you care about others, and it also relates to your professional aspirations. Overall, I think you have a strong profile, and I see your odds at Booth to be about 35%, which is even better than the school’s average acceptance rate of about 25%. Best of luck!
Hello Ms. Start Up Entrepreneur, I’m Lisa Cummings of Stratus Admissions. While your stats are robust- you are wise to aim for a slightly higher GRE, that will make your file more competitive at all of your schools. I am impressed by your community work helping others and this will resonate with adcomms as well. You have had an interesting professional trajectory- are you still working in supply chain while you build your startup on the side or are you now working on that full time? Will you continue working on it while in school or put it on hold? Think about your narrative- what do you want our schools to know about you – specifically what skills and experiences will you need …

For Booth and INSEAD I rate your odds slightly above their average, for the other schools that number will be lower. Best of luck!
