Qualified as a lawyer at the age of 21 and have not stopped growing and learning since then. I’ve worked and lead on some major projects for FTSE100 and FTSE250 companies. Set up a former employer’s non-profit strategy from the ground up., which lead to major contributions to a youth non-profit and a long partnership.
I have seen the bad side of non-profit management having been involved across different roles and capacities. I want to lead and develop better youth non-profits post-covid. Being a lawyer is useful but you need business skills to manage a non-profit across all areas and implement good strategies.

Hi Ms. Tech Lawyer, Impressive background! This is Debbie Choy from mbaMission. I like that you have had an outstanding career trajectory – from leading major client work to setting up your former employer’s non-profit strategy. I also like your community leadership on the Trustee Board of a youth charity and volunteering / mentoring. I think your GPA is very robust, and your GMAT score is in line with the average at Fuqua. As you put together your apps, be sure to explain why you wish to focus more on non-profit management. What drives you to be passionate in this area? Also, you mentioned you need business skills – what specifically do you wish to learn at Fuqua? Are there specific programs or classes at Fuqua …

Fuqua looks for specifics in essays and interviews to see that you’ve really done your due diligence in understanding how their program and resources will help you achieve your future career goals. I think if you can weave these and your personal / professional stories into a compelling narrative, you would have a strong shot at Fuqua. Ms. Tech Lawyer – Thanks for posting your profile. Susan Cera here from Stratus. I spent 10 years evaluating applications at Duke Fuqua and think you would be a great fit!
I think Fuqua will be able to overlook your softer GMAT and focus on your performance and growth. They will certainly appreciate your commitment to non-profits and expect that you will continue to engage in the Fuqua community – perhaps through Fuqua on Board or a Fuqua Client Consulting Practicum.
You will need to address why you need an MBA when you already have an Ms in Business and Management. Perhaps there is more you have learned in observing the ‘bad side’ of non-profit management that has helped you to identify some knowledge and skills …
