What achievement are you most proud of in your professional career? As a 20+ year R&D professional, one might expect that my proudest achievements would lie in the products or innovations from throughout the years. In fact, I’m most proud of the human legacy that I have had the honor of creating and influencing throughout my career. I find no greater pleasure than helping others grow and gain knowledge and confidence – both personally and professionally – and most importantly to lead happier, more fulfilling lives.

Why did you choose this school’s online MBA program? I chose Drexel’s Online MBA program as it afforded me both the opportunity to not only to gain an outstanding depth of knowledge in my concentration area (Marketing), but in a second area as a graduate minor (Entrepreneurship & Innovation). I also loved the opportunity to blend the residential and experiential learning options with traditional online classrooms to ensure that I was gaining knowledge and insights from my peers and getting to know them…even though we were often hundreds of miles apart.

What was your favorite part of being in an online MBA program? I loved the independence and flexibility of when, where, and how to complete assignments while at the same time knowing that my peers and instructors were just an email or text away to discuss topics, ideas, or provide assistance. I also loved finding those 4-5 peers in each class who you knew would help challenge you to think about the topics more strategically and from different perspectives. There were always multiple points of view to learn from to get more out of each class.

What was the most surprising thing about an online learning environment? The amount of peer-to-peer interaction, involvement, and passion. Throughout the entire program, my peers across all courses and teams were engaged and actively willing to share and learn from each other.

What is your best piece of advice to an applicant for thriving in an online MBA program? Don’t think online is easier than the classroom. It takes more personal initiative to ensure that you are keeping up, learning from others and mastering the subjects than a classroom accountability setting may require.

What would you change about an online MBA Program? I would have liked to have the opportunity to attend more 3-4 day residency courses as the immersion was very effective (and the late nights made me feel like a kid again!). It was great interacting with my peers in that setting. I developed friendships that carried through other courses and also helped ease the coursework and time commitment throughout the term.

How has your online education helped you in your current job? The exposure and depth of understanding that I gained through my MBA to topics ranging from Marketing, Innovation, Social Entrepreneurship, Finance, and Law have enabled me to step into the leadership role in a small non-profit with more well-rounded skills and knowledge needed to succeed. I am able to approach the problems and opportunities more broadly focused, assess and participate in ideation sessions more effectively, and have the confidence to lead the execution of new, creative, and different ideas that can help the organization not only survive but also thrive.

If you had to do it all over again, would you? Why? Absolutely! Embarking on my MBA reignited a love of learning. I not only became a more well-rounded person but loved helping my peers grow while also gaining an increased confidence level and understanding of the world around us. Working with so many students from different walks of life, I also now have a better appreciation for how our thought processes differ and match that has made my engagements with others throughout my life more fruitful.

What is your ultimate long-term professional goal? I want to continue to find creative and meaningful ways to help others. I recently transitioned from the consumer products industry to a non-profit leadership role in my hometown as I had a desire to give back and help others in a way that was no longer being met in the corporate world. I look forward to continuing to grow and evolve this role and seeing where it takes me, and whom I can find new and creative ways to help as a mentor, role model, coach, and leader.
