The Johns Hopkins Carey Business School’s Full-time MBA is designed for professionals who want to do more than learn the fundamentals of business. The two-year, STEM-designated program combines analytical and strategic training with hands-on experiences, entrepreneurship, and the interdisciplinary resources of one of the world’s leading research universities.

Carey’s MBA is relatively young, with its first graduating class in 2012, but that gives the program an opportunity to approach business education with a distinctly modern lens. The school’s culture is collaborative, curious, and impact oriented, with students coming from a range of professional and academic backgrounds and opportunities to connect business with fields including health care, technology, data science, entrepreneurship, and public policy.

The program is based at Carey’s Harbor East campus in Baltimore, putting students in the middle of a waterfront neighborhood filled with restaurants, cultural attractions and entertainment. Within the broader Johns Hopkins ecosystem, MBAs engage with peers and faculty across schools including Medicine, Public Health, Nursing and Engineering. There’s plenty of opportunities to explore business questions that extend well beyond the traditional business-school classroom.

In the Full-time MBA, they keep its incoming class small. The most recent entering class has just 29 students. This is to intentionally give students an environment where they can work closely with their classmates while taking advantage of the resources of a much larger university.

The 54-credit curriculum is made up of rigorous foundation courses with extra focus on analytics, leadership, innovation and experiential learning. Rather than treating real-world application as something that happens only after graduation, Carey builds “learning by doing” directly into the MBA. Students apply what they learn in class to real business challenges, developing skills in data analysis, problem-solving, communication, collaboration and strategic decision-making.

Students complete the Big Data Consulting Project, where they apply data analysis and visualization skills to a real business problem. They also have the Innovation Field Project, where they’ll work with corporate partners to tackle real challenges and develop actionable recommendations. Carey’s experiential curriculum has even received recognition from MBA Roundtable, which awarded the school its 2021 Innovator Award for General Excellence for its reimagined sequence of experiential courses.

Carey offers two optional specializations: Analytics, Leadership, and Innovation (ALI) and then Health, Technology, and Innovation (HTI). Students can also pursue an Integrated Dual Degree, earning their MBA alongside a specialized master’s degree in Health Care Management, Business Analytics and Artificial Intelligence, or Finance.

Entrepreneurship is another important part of the Carey experience. MBA students have access to resources including the Pava Center and Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures, along with mentorship, venture competitions and hands-on opportunities to develop ideas and launch new ventures.

“The Carey MBA prepares leaders for a business environment being reshaped by AI, data and increasingly complex challenges. Our students develop the technical fluency to use these tools, but just as importantly, they develop the human skills – judgment, communication, collaboration, creativity and leadership – to put them to work effectively,” says Dean Alex Triantis. “Through hands-on experiences solving real business problems, mentorship and an entrepreneurial mindset that encourages students to see opportunities and turn ideas into action, Carey graduates are prepared not just for the jobs of today, but to lead what comes next.”

Carey also provides students with career coaching, employer connections, internship postings, industry events and networking opportunities through its Career & Life Design and Employer Relations teams. In the Class of 2025, 100% of Full-time MBA students seeking an internship secured one. Students can also go on optional global immersions in countries including India, Chile, Germany, Italy and the U.K.
