The Leeds School of Business MBA: What You Need To Know

Formed in 1906 as part of the University of Colorado, Leeds is the eighth-oldest business school in the United States. Leeds combines a rich history in business education with a commitment to producing innovative, principled business leaders.

The school’s location on one of the nation’s most beautiful campuses makes it an easy sell for students seeking a customizable program with international opportunities. Leeds’ emphasis on entrepreneurship and innovation has given rise to such notable business successes as Crocs, Mad Greens, as well as other new companies through startup accelerator Techstars. The school prides itself on counting five Nobel prize winners among its faculty.

Leeds’ full-time two-year MBA program has about 90 students per class and is designed to be a flexible and immersive experience. In their Fall Semester, first-year Colorado Leeds MBA students are enrolled in Socially Responsible Business alongside three to four seven-week modules. The curriculum places an emphasis on sustainable and ethical business practices to strengthen innovation and the impact made by their students.

The first year focuses on core courses including accounting, finance, marketing, management and strategy and the second year is packed with electives to allow students a deeper exploration of functional core disciplines, as well as special-interest coursework like entrepreneurship, real estate, sustainability and global seminars.

Colorado Leeds’ MBA students also have the opportunity to engage specialized MBA Pathways, designed to enhance their experience through a blending coursework with industry connections and Center of Excellence events and opportunities. Pathways include Natural & Organics, Real Estate, High Growth Venture and Clean Energy.

Outside of the required curriculum, students typically participate in Treks, engage with Centers of Excellence, and participate in numerous networking opportunities, case competitions and conferences. Colorado Leeds MBA students also have the opportunity to gain global business savvy through a variety of study abroad opportunities, ranging from full-semester exchange programs in India and Spain to several-week International Study Seminars in Europe.

MBAs also have the option to earn a second degree from another school or college on the CU-Boulder campus in less time than it would take to earn both diplomas sequentially. For their second degree, students can study everything from law and computer science to fine arts and Germanic languages.
