About the Program
The Master of Accounting Science (MAS) program at Gies College of Business is a nine-month program for students who already hold a bachelor of science in accountancy. MAS students will design their own curriculum by choosing an accounting concentration in Financial Reporting & Assurance (FRA) or Tax and then choosing an elective concentration based on their interests and career goals. The Gies MAS is STEM-designated, meaning that regardless of specialization and concentration, students will acquire the data analytics knowledge and capabilities that top firms demand.
The Department of Accountancy features world-renowned faculty, teaching in an approachable setting with a 22:1 student-faculty ratio. The dynamic curriculum will prepare students to sit for the CPA exam with confidence. Beyond the curriculum, they will develop leadership skills and learn to visualize and apply analytics in a variety of scenarios to confront real-world problems. MAS students will also join an alumni base that places more partners in the Big Four accounting firms than any other university.
Program Format and Schedule
Over the course of nine months, MAS students complete a curriculum designed with a broad range of required and elective courses. Additionally, MAS students can choose to expand their opportunity for growth with an optional CPA Exam Preparation Course.
Students will select either Financial Reporting & Assurance (FRA) or Tax as a core accounting concentration and then have a wide choice of graduate electives. By design, the program emphasizes the emerging trend of data analytics in the practice of accounting with a standard course plan that leads to a graduate concentration in data analytics in accountancy to fulfill the graduate electives. Elective concentrations are also available in corporate governance & international business, information technology & control, finance, and supply chain management.
Students enter the MAS program at Gies Business with four things:
– An undergraduate degree in accounting from an accredited U.S. institution (all four years must be completed in the U.S.).
– A strong quantitative and verbal background.
– U.S. based internship experience is strongly recommended for consideration.
– A determination to make the most of their future in accounting.
